Local Motion and other partners have launched “Way To Go!” – a new campaign encouraging the use of cheaper, healthier and more earth-friendly transportation alternatives. Click on www.WayToGoVT.org for information on telecommuting, walking, biking, carpooling and taking the bus.
"Way To Go is a chance for people to enjoy using public transportation, or try walking or biking for their daily commute," said Peter Keating, senior transportation planner for the CCMPO. "It is fitting that the launch of this campaign coincides with the release of recent research on American's need to move more to prevent obesity, as well as the start of National Bike to Work Month."
During Way to Go Week 2004, 5,019 participants saved 224,841 miles of driving alone, 9,993 gallons of gas worth $ 18,487, avoided $29,055 in total driving and maintenance costs, prevented 195,862 pounds of CO2 emissions and a total of 202,427 pounds of air pollutants . Furthermore, the fewer folks who drive solo to work, the less rush hour congestion we all must face. Each year, traffic congestion cost U.S. travelers $78 billion in lost productivity, delays, and excess fuel consumption.
Way To Go! is a partnership between the Campus Area Transportation Management Association (CATMA) Chittenden County Metropolitan Planning Organization (CCMPO), Chittenden County Transportation Authority (CCTA), Lake Champlain Committee, Local Motion, and the Alliance for Climate Action 10% Challenge.
